Self-striping yarn does all the work in this cute beanie pattern. The pattern creates a striped beanie using DK (3) weight yarn or worsted (4) weight yarn and a size I or J crochet hook. The beanie is stitched in the round and the spike stitch is explained in the pattern. Instructions are also given for making a faux fur pompom. A purchased pompom would work too. Separate instructions are given for the 2 yarn weight versions. The finished beanie will measure approximately 9 1/2” from the top to the edge. The Winter Woods Beanie is crocheted using worsted weight yarn and a size J crochet hook. The ribbed band of the hat is created first using short rows and then the body of the hat is crocheted in the round with the waffle stitch (a combination of double crochet and front post double crochet). The beanie is topped with a DIY fur pompom made from faux fur purchased at your local fabric or craft store. The finished slouchy beanie will measure approximately 9 inches from the top of the hat to the edge. The hat should fit a head circumference between 18” and 23”. A soft, light-weight worsted yarn like Lion Brand Heartland works best for this hat.
