A couple of months ago I shared my first post on Craftaholics Anonymous. It was just before Valentine’s Day so I made a crocheted bunting using hearts and doilies that could be used as valentine decor. At that time I also shared a option without the hearts, just using the doilies. I really liked the way the heart one turned out but since it is kind of seasonal I liked the idea of the doily only version for any time of year. By changing up the colors it could be a perfect addition to your decor for any season. It would be cute for spring, summer, fall, Christmas, any time really. I think it would also make a cute decoration for a little girls nursery or a baby shower. The doily sections are made individually, make as many as you want to make it as long as you want. Then they are connected across the top. This can be done in the same color or a coordinating one. I made 5 doily sections and my bunting was about 48 inches long. I made it with 100% cotton yarn, I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream, because it holds the shape really well and has nice stitch definition. You really could use any worsted weight yarn but cotton gave me the look I wanted so it is what I would recommend. Crochet Doily Bunting Supplies 100% cotton yarn in colors of your choice (for the doily version I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream in Ecru and Rose Pink, the heart version used White, Hot Pink and Rose Pink) G crochet yarn needle for weaving in ends How To Make Doily Sections Finished size approx 7 1/2 inches across the top, straight edge and about 4 inches from top to bottom I made 5 doily sections for the doily bunting, 4 doily sections for the heart bunting. Row 1: Start with a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 6 dc in magic ring (7 dc) Row 2: turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in first stitch, 2 dc in each stitch until you have one stitch left, dc in last stitch (top of ch 3 from first row) (13 dc) Row 3: turn, ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), skip 1 stitch, dc in next, [ch 2, skip 1, dc in next] repeat to end (7 dc, 6 ch spaces) Row 4: turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), [(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch space, dc in next dc], repeat to end (19 dc, 6 ch spaces) Row 5: turn, ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), sc in ch space, [ch 6, sc in next ch space] repeat to last ch space, ch 3, dc in last stitch (7 ch loops) Row 6: turn, ch 1, sc in first stitch, 4 sc in ch 3 space, 8 sc in each of the next 5 ch 6 spaces, 4 sc in the last ch space, sc in top of dc (third ch of that ch loop) Row 7: ch 1, turn 90 degrees so you are working across the top (flat edge) of doily, sc evenly across he top (usually 1 sc in the side of each sc and 2 sc in the side of each dc, but do whatever gives you a nice straight edge) Finish off, weave in ends and repeat until you have the desired number of doilies. Now that you have all of your doily sections done it is time to connect them all. Connecting them is really easy because you are working along the straight edges. Ch 10, slip stitch to t
he first ch to create a loop for hanging, ch 15, sc across the top of your first doily, ch 1, sc crochet across the top of next doily, repeat until all doily sections are attatched, ch 25, slip stitch to the 10th ch from the hook to create loop Finish off and weave in ends If you want to make the heart version you need to make the doilies in the same way as above as well as make some hearts. I made 4 doilies and 5 hearts. How To Make Hearts Finished size is about 3 1/2 x 4 inches Start with a magic ring Round 1: ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, slip stitch to 3rd ch of beginning ch 5 to join (12 dc, 4 ch spaces) Round 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), [(2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch space, dc in next 3 dc] repeat 2 more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch space, dc in next 2 dc, slip stitch to beginning ch 3 (28 dc, 4 ch spaces) Round 3: slip stitch over to corner ch space, 9 dc 4th dc from corner (center dc), slip stitch in next corner ch space, 9 dc in 4th dc from corner, slip stitch in next corner (2 9dc shells) Finish off, weave in ends and repeat until you have the number of hearts you need. I made 3 in one color and 2 in another. Attaching the hearts and doilies is a just a little bit more complicated because you aren’t working only along a straight edge. I didn’t want to have the tops of the hearts messed up by working into the top edge so I attached them by working into the back, just below the top edge. That preserved the clean top curve of the heart. If you want to see pictures of how I did that you can look at my original post on Craftaholics Anonymous. ch 10, slip stitch to first ch (this creates a loop for hanging), ch 18, attach first heart (working on the back of the heart) sc in the back of 2 stitches at the top of the bump part of the heart, ch7, sc in the back of 2 stitches on the second bump of the heart, ch 3, sc across top of first doily section, ch 3, attach second heart the same way as the first, continue until all of your pieces are attached, after attaching last heart ch 28, slip stitch to tenth ch from hook to create second hanging loop, finish off, weave in ends I think that there are lots of fun ways you could use these little buntings and they are fun to make.
