Spring Crochet Patterns

Is it Spring yet? I have to confess it is my FAVORITE season of all! I am very blessed to live in an area where we have all 4 beautiful seasons. While I enjoy them all, Spring is full of my favorite bright colors and blooms. It’s a little glimpse of the warm weather that’s to come. We’ve had an unusual amount of snow for our area in the last two weeks, it was fun at first (only because I didn’t have to drive in it, complete chicken here!). But now after week two I’m ready for some sunshine. This pillow jumped on my hook for two reasons. One, to cheer me up with that cozy bright yellow. Two, to work on one of my goals that I shared with you earlier in the year. To work through my inventory of yarn and pillow forms (how I ended up with 2 round and 4 rectangular pillows with no project in mind is beyond me!). (This means I still have one more round pillow form. What would you like to see a pattern for? Let me know below in the comments what you think it should be!) I used pink cheeks for my pattern but this pillow would also be super cute with red cheeks! This pillow works up quite quickly and is the type of project you can do while watching your favorite movie. Most stitches are in continuous rounds with easy repeats. For this pattern you will want to be familiar with working in a magic circle. If this is new to you I have a tutorial below to walk you through it! I also wanted to share that March brings a couple of super fun celebrations! First, it’s National Crochet Month (anyone else celebrate this year round?), it’s also my birthday month and it has officially been 1 year since the launch of this blog! I can’t believe how fast 1 year has gone by! I want to thank each of you for making this such a fun year, your encouragement and support has been beyond amazing! You rock! Stay tuned for a fun a giveaway in the next few weeks to celebrate you, I’ll be sharing it here on my Facebook page! Be sure to also check out the Grace and Yarn Crochet Group on Facebook, this is a great place to share your WIPs, ask questions and engage with others who love to crochet! Materials: Size 4 worsted weight yarn (One skein yellow [approx. 350 yards], small amount of black, white, orange and pink for facial features) 4 mm crochet hook (these are my all time favorite hooks to work with!) 14-inch round pillow form (stuffing can be used as a replacement) Scissors Tapestry needle Stitch markers Sewing pins (optional) Abbreviations: US terminology MC- Magic circle SC- Single crochet HDC- Half double crochet HDC INC – Half double crochet increase HDC DEC – Half double crochet decrease Sl st – Slip stitch St(s)- Stitch(es) Gauge: 6 rounds = 4-inch diameter Magic Circle A magic circle (also called an adjustable loop) is the most common way to start amigurumi. 1. Leaving about a 4 inch tail wrap the yarn into a circle as in the photos below. 2. Hold the loop by placing your fingers over the part where the working yarn crosses over the tail. 3. Insert your hook into the circle, yarn over, pull through and chain 1. 4. You’re magic circle is complete and ready to begin as pattern instructs (ex: if round says 6 SC you will complete 6 SC around the loop). 5. Pull your tail tight to close. Eyes – Make 2 With black Round 1: Create a magic circle with 8 HDC, sl st to the first HDC to join Round 2: Ch 1, HDC INC in each stitch around, sl st to the first HDC to join (16) Round 3: Ch 1, HDC in the same st, HDC INC in the next, repeat around, sl st to the first HDC to join (24) Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing, with white yarn create a reflection by passin

Do not fasten off the 2nd cover. Assembly – 1. Sew your eyes, cheeks and beak onto one of your pillow covers. Optional: Use sewing pins to help hold them in place. 2. Place both covers with wrong sides together. SC around the edge making sure to go through each cover. When you are halfway across, insert your pillow form (or stuffing) and continue to SC around the remaining half. Fasten off and weave in your end. (If you are using stuffing as an alternative be sure to add extra stuffing just before closing to reach the level of firmness you would like.) You crochet chick pillow is done! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern, thanks so much for stopping by!
